Sappi Ngodwana Mill seeks to place a suitably qualified Softwood Operator to be responsible and accountable for the efficient operation of the softwood plant from the softwood entry deck to the softwood chip pile. To debark logs and operate the softwood chipper at the required chipping rate

REPORTING TO the Shift Superintendent


  • Perform start up and shut down of plant
  • Monitor plant during operation
  • Identify abnormal and emergency plant conditions and take corrective action according to standard Best Operating Practices
  • Shut down the plant when required
  • Conduct planned and unplanned knife changes
  • Clear log blockages on log conveying systems
  • Clear bark blockages on bark system
  • Ensure plant is running at optimum state to deliver on daily targets
  • Monitor chip quality and report deviations to Shift Superintendent
  • Isolate plant as required as Authorized Operator
  • Perform house keeping with the team - focus on area of responsibility

  • Grade 12 Maths and Science
  • N3 Pulp and Paper would be advantageous
  • 1-3 years' experience in the Pulp and Paper industry, preferably Woodyard Operation.
