ITC-SA appoints two Regional Coordinators

The Institute for Timber Construction South Africa (ITC-SA) is pleased to announce the appointment of two Regional Coordinators to assist its General Manager, Erik Söderlund to focus on the Institute's core function of self-regulating engineered roof trusses.

ITC-SA member Ian Keevey is the new Regional Coordinator responsible for the Southern Cape and Eastern Cape. He joins Neil de Villiers who is responsible for the Western Cape.

Ian Keevy

In 2001 Keevey, thought he could retire to the idyllic Southern Cape seaside village of Knysna.

However, like countless other folks with sawdust in their veins, he finds it impossible to shrug off the experience, knowledge, and camaraderie gained from designing and working with timber structures. It was not long before he began consulting to several professional engineers in the Garden Route.

During the 27 years of owning and operating a successful truss manufacturing business Keevey dedicated himself to uplifting the engineered timber profession.

He was a founder member of the ITC-SA and served on its Board of Directors for 12 years. Keevey says he welcomes the opportunity to once again play an active role in the Institute.

Neil de Villiers

Neil de Villiers ran his own company in Cape Town and has over 15 years of experience in truss manufacturing. He has a sound knowledge of the industry, including plant management, estimating and quotations, roof erecting and site management.

DeVilliers says he loves the mother city. He and his wife Marieta have two married daughters who are both accountants and live in Cape Town's northern suburbs.

De Villiers has a degree in economics and an MBA from the University of Stellenbosch. He explains that the first part of his career was in software development, where he progressed to Senior Software Manager at Metropolitan Life before heeding the call of timber.

He is looking forward to his new role and says, "I trust that I will add value to the ITC-SA and its members".

Responsibilities

The Coordinators will assist the Institute's members in their regions, expand awareness of the ITC-SA and reduce the prevalence of non-compliant site-made trusses by working with the responsible authorities.
