PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To ensure that equipment is lifted safely and that all rigging equipment meets the legal and safety requirements.
REPORTING TO the Mechanical Foreman
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform rigging tasks and completes job card.
- Inspect and colour codes rigging equipment and completes required registers.
- Erect scaffolding when required and issues safety certificates to relevant foreman.
- Maintain all rigging equipment in the correct manner.
- Inspect moveable ladders and cat ladders quarterly and updates relevant records.
- Operate all rigging equipment and able to use all types of lifting tackle.
- Use lifting machines such as Abbey, Iron Fairy and Skyjack.
- Rig all equipment into place or out, utilizing the correct equipment and procedure for the job.
- Do legal inspection for lifting equipment, complete registers and declare equipment fit for use or not.
- Do specialized rigging tasks by assessing requirements and calculating safe lifting angles, radii and loads for lifting equipment and mobile cranes.
- Transport all equipment within the mill.
- Perform standby duties as per the standby roster and call out procedure.
ENSURES, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE
- Understands the SHEQ requirements of the Section.
- Investigates incidents (SHEQ) and identify root causes of Non-Conformances and corrects deviations.
- Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all time.
KEY COMPETENCIES / SKILLS
- Ability to use all rigging equipment correctly.
- Ability to work at elevated heights.
- Licensed to drive mobile cranes.
- Knowledge of regulations related to scaffolding and lifting of equipment.
- Problem solving skills.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
Essential Qualifications
- N3 Mechanical Engineering with a recognized Trade Test as a Rigger.
- Completed apprenticeship.
Minimum Experience
- Two years post - Apprenticeship experience in a heavy Engineering environment.
- Computer Literacy (MS Office, SAP).
