PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Directs all manufacturing, operational and related activities in its Barberton Mill by efficient utilization of resources in order to meet customer needs and to maximise the mill's contribution to Sappi turnover and profit.

REPORTING TO: the General Manager Forestry

 
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Devise a Mill strategy to align the business to and support the divisional and organizational objectives.
• Provide inspirational leadership and create a positive environment and an engaged workforce.
• Coordinate and direct the activities of staff to maximise utilization of human and material resources to achieve turnover, production, cost control and profit goals.
• Set and ensure the Mill Safety, Health, Environment and Quality standards and targets are adhered to.
• Ensure internal controls are maintained to ensure good corporate governance.
• Actively investigate the continuous reduction of waste, increase in operational efficiency and evaluate the contribution levels of individual product lines.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with interested and affected parties.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

• Qualification in Wood Technology, Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum experience: 7 - 10 years Senior Management experience ideally within the Sawmilling industry processing soft wood.
• Working Knowledge of ISO: 9001, 14001, 18001 and FSC, SANS 1783, 1, 2 & 4, 10096, 10183, 1460, ISPM 15.
