Kiln and Boiler Manager
Position Purpose
Responsible for maintaining Zero harm principles, while providing product and service that meets or exceeds the internal and external customers' expectations using the most cost effective methods available.
Key responsibilities
People and Safety
- Direct manpower, materials & work activity to achieve plant output to planned levels
- Manage performance on productivity, quality and safety.
- Direct, coach, train and develop team members to meet corporate strategic goals and safety initiatives.
- Conduct employment interviews and ensure compliance with new hire practices.
- Manage shift payroll and submission.
- Promote and drive a Culture of Zero Harm
- Manage all departmental communication e.g. Cell C meetings
- Ensures good communication and sound relationships are maintained with all employees and worker representatives.
Machinery and Systems Control
- Controls dry kilns to dry lumber to specified moisture content: measure moisture, weighs and places lumber samples in oven and re weighs periodically to determine rate and percentage of moisture
- Determines drying cycles and schedule, considering factors such as dimensions and quantity of lumber to be dried...
- Manage and control records relating kilns including but not limited to ; temperature,humidity,ventilation..readjusts temperature and humidity controls to regulate moisture.
- Ensure moisture measured at the completion of drying cycle to ensure specified amount has been removed.
Boiler Duties
Machinery and Systems Control
- Manage and ensure complete boiler control system in place e.g Pressure Measurement, Feed water and drum level control, furnace air and draft controls, combustion controls, burner management system steam pressure and boiler load controls
- Ensure the boiler accessories meet a variety of challenging heating and processing needs for Sawmill
- Ensure production of lower emissions while working more efficiently to meet site needs.
Identify, recommend and/or implement changes designed to improve production procedures, equipment performance, working conditions and product quality to maximize the section's efficiency.
Qualifications
- Education: College diploma in Technical field or the equivalent.
- Education: University degree relevant to field will be an added advantage
- Experience: 3 years in Kilns and Boiler management duties
Experience
- 2-5 years of front line supervisory experience in production, manufacturing in Forestry and milling environment.
- CHEP experience an asset.
- Experience with formal safety programs, maintenance programs and knowledge of regulatory environment an asset
- Experience in Sawmill environment essential ( will be an advantage)
Skills and Knowledge
- Working knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing or other continuous improvement programs are assets.
- Production planning experience, relationship building, analytical problems solving skills, strong ability to multi-task and work within a team environment.
- Experience with recruitment, hiring, discipline and termination processes.
