PG Bison is commissioning the state-of-the-art medium-density fibreboard (MDF) line at its Mkhondo manufacturing facility in June 2024, one month ahead of schedule and on budget, with full commercial production starting in July 2024.

Gerhard Victor, CEO of PG Bison, is proud of the company's achievements. The Contiroll line is the largest in Africa, increasing PG Bison's MDF capacity by 780 cubic meters per day, taking its total installed MDF capacity to 1,180 cubic meters per day across its Boksburg and Mkhondo plants.

The new MDF line and recently enhanced particleboard line establish the PG Bison Mkhondo cluster as a comprehensive manufacturing facility for wood-based panel products. This unique setup is Africa's sole facility integrating a particleboard line, an MDF line, upgrade facilities, resin manufacturing, and paper treaters within one site.

"We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of this project", says Victor. "The technology investments produce low-density, medium-density, and high-density MDF, offering our customers unparalleled versatility and quality, setting a new standard for African wood-based panel products".

The R1.875 billion MDF project commenced in November 2021. Victor says the commissioning underscores PG Bison's commitment to integrating advanced technology and industry best practices into wood panel manufacturing to produceworld-class products for its diverse
customer base.

Simultaneously, PG Bison supports employment opportunities and economic growth across Africa through its investments and operations, aligning with initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTFA) and the South African Furniture Industry and Forestry Sector Master Plans.

Justin Berry, the company's marketing and strategy development executive, says, "As PG Bison embarks on this next growth phase, we are steadfast in our commitment to inspiring and enabling beautiful spaces".

The company operates across multiple Sub-Saharan African countries, employing over 2,000 people, and contributes to the forestry and furniture value chain. PG Bison is a division of JSE-listed KAP Limited.

"Increasing our MDF capacity addresses the rising need for MDF products, providing our customers the flexibility to customise solutions to meet various design needs and functional requirements", says Berry.

"The products produced from this line will assist furniture manufacturers in localising imported finished products. Moreover, it will open up numerous creative possibilities for designers and architects, including furniture, cabinets, wardrobes, wall panels, partitions, shelving, soundproofing, decorative moulding, cornices, textured walls, and DIY projects."

"We offer premium quality and versatility for all decorative wood-based panel needs. Whether for local projects or exports, PG Bison stands ready to meet the demands of its customers with excellence and innovation", Berry confirms.
